Woodturning - Walnut Platter | Sideways turning with Toolrest Extension from Record Power.

Finally I'm going to turn a piece of walnut. I got this walnut from Leo Gijssel. Because this is such beautiful wood, I also wanted to make a special piece of it. No idea why I chose such a large plate. It was quite a challenge again but I could use the Banjo / Rest Extension on my Record Power Coronet Herald for this project again because I had to turn sideways of the lathe bed. This piece of wood was larger than 16 inches and I can turn a maximum of 14 inches above the lathe bed. In between the turning, I turned around the board over again to flatten the other side. I did this to make the measurement stable so that I could run a higher RMP. It helped a bit, but when the weather was turned back there was some imbalance. I don't know if this was a good idea or that I shouldn't do it. For the finish I used "Hampshire Sheen high gloss" finish for the first time. It is a nice finish, but because of the shine you can see all the flaws in your turning work. And because of the size of this platter, there were certainly some high spots. The orbital sander was able to save me a bit. I still have a lot to learn. Maybe I should turn at higher RPM?
