650 km, four countries, three climate zones, two mountain passes, and a crazy idea. Cycling across the Alps – Stage Bolzano → Wine Route → Lake Caldaro → Egna 🚴‍♂️🍇 Good morning from South Tyrol 🌄 We started early, before the heat hit, and cruised along the Adige River towards Bolzano. The direct cycle path is fast – but also a bit monotonous. But it gets all the more beautiful in Bolzano: the old town, the cathedral, Italian flair, and of course, a cappuccino ☕. We continued along the Isarco/Eisack River back onto the Via Claudia Augusta – and suddenly everything changed: The landscape became softer, warmer, more Mediterranean. Apple orchards gradually gave way to vineyards 🍇. Welcome to the South Tyrolean Wine Route. Passing castles, small villages, and breathtaking views, we drove through Eppan, continuing towards Kaltern. Then came that moment: our first glimpse of Lake Kaltern – the warmest Alpine lake 💧☀️. A place to breathe deeply, marvel, and briefly forget everything. But as so often on this trip, things remained exciting: No campsites, hardly any available rooms… so it was time to improvise again 😅. Finally, we found a place in Neumarkt – and enjoyed the evening with a well-deserved Aperol 🍹.
