Palaronda Via Ferrata Tour in 4 Days – Day 3: From Rifugio Velo della Madonna via the easy, short Via Ferrata della Vecchia (B) and the impressive Ferrata del Portòn (C) to Rifugio Pradidali (mid-August 2025) We start at the hut, heading downhill at first, and hike past massive rock faces to the right until we reach a junction leading to the Ferrata della Vecchia, which is relatively easy and short with a maximum difficulty level of B and an elevation gain of 80 meters. At the top, we follow a steep trail to the junction we passed the day before. From here, we can already look up at the impressive Forcella Portòn, which towers like a gigantic rock gate. We climb up to the narrow saddle (2,460 m), where the start of the first section of the via ferrata is located. On the other side of the saddle, the route leads directly down via rungs and ladders, followed by an unsecured descent along a steep, slippery path (caution is advised here, also due to falling rocks). On the other side of the saddle, the second section of the via ferrata begins, marked on the wall with a red arrow and the inscription “Porton.” Shortly after, the first grade C section appears on the ascent; a bit further down the descent, the second one follows. After that, the route continues mostly horizontally without difficulty. Here, you can already see today’s destination, the Pradidali Hut. Finally, there is a long descent via dozens of rungs, followed by a short climbing section at the exit of the via ferrata. On the other side of the saddle, the path climbs over rocky terrain to a meadow plateau; the hut is only a few meters away.
