I Got the Wrong Stamp! (Dumai to Malacca Ferry Adventure)

From Dumai, Sumatra to Melaka, Malaysia – Ferry Journey with My Bicycle I say goodbye to Dumai, Sumatra, and head back to Malaysia by ferry. After the final two weeks at the Ohana Hotel, listening to swiftlet recordings 24/7 and being kept company by the local roosters, it's time to return to Melaka. I ride my bicycle about 4 km to the ferry terminal, running a little late but making it through the chaotic Dumai traffic. At the port, there are no clear signs for Indomal Fast Ferry luggage dropoff – just wandering and asking until I find the tiny wooden counter. My bicycle and two pannier bags cost 65,000 rupiah to bring on board. Then comes the surprise: the port tax of 75,000 rupiah must be paid by card or e-wallet only. No cash accepted. Luckily, Touch 'n Go (Malaysian e-wallet) saves the day. Immigration is smooth, with friendly officers who are curious about my YouTube channel. When I bought the ticket, I was told there was no VIP seating, but I discover an empty upper deck with comfortable seats. I move up anyway. The boat leaves 15 minutes early (unusual for Sumatra, where delays are common) and arrives in Melaka 2.5 hours later. As we pull into the Melaka River, I spot monitor lizards on the shore and reflect on how much of Melaka is reclaimed land – explaining why old maps never seemed to match the current coastline. Back through immigration in Malaysia. The officer accidentally gives me a 30-day stamp, then corrects it to 90 days. My luggage is still waiting at the hotel, and they give me a room two hours early. Hot water shower for the first time in a month. Practical tips for travelers: Bring an e-wallet (Touch 'n Go or GoPay) for the Dumai port tax – cash is not accepted Luggage fees are reasonable (65,000 rupiah for a bicycle and two bags) Boats can leave early, not just late Always check your passport stamp before leaving immigration Thanks for watching.
