KOPPÁNY ( Strong of Somogy )

In 997, with the death of Grand Prince Géza, an era ended — and a struggle for the soul of the Hungarian nation began. Koppány, lord of Somogy in southern Transdanubia, was a member of the Árpád dynasty — and under ancient Magyar custom, he had a legitimate claim to power. By the principle of seniority, he was the eldest surviving male of the ruling family; by the old law of levirate marriage, he was also entitled to marry Géza's widow, Sarolt. This was not mere ambition — under the old order, both claims were his by right. But the young man who had himself girded with the sword of the Grand Prince at Esztergom had a different future in mind for the Hungarian people: Stephen, son of Géza, husband of the Bavarian princess Gisela, and ally of German knights and Latin priests. Koppány laid siege to Veszprém. His army was made up largely of light cavalry — the old way of war. Stephen's forces included heavy cavalry and armored Bavarian knights. In 997, near Veszprém, the armies met. Koppány was defeated and killed. His body was quartered. The pieces were sent to Veszprém, Győr, Esztergom, and Transylvania, displayed as a warning to anyone who would raise a sword against the new order. History is written by the victor. But the defeated still have a voice — in the fire that went out before it could speak its reasons. This song is that voice. The last word of the old gods, spoken just before the silence. 🎼 Symphonic Cold — Legendák album Dark Electro | EBM | Orchestral | Saxophone 📖 Learn more: Koppány — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopp%C3...
