Kina for Christmas a Catch and Cook/Diving Adventure
Kina diving in New Zealand on a rainy Christmas day 🎄🌊 In this episode of Muddy Feet, Quinn (aka Kaimachine) and I head out for a New Zealand freediving adventure on a rainy, overcast day. While the weather is dull and moody, these conditions are some of the most beautiful and peaceful times to be in the ocean, with fewer people around and a raw Kiwi coastal feel. We spend the day freediving for kina (sea urchin), gathering fresh kina straight from the rocks using safe and sustainable kai gathering practices. Kina diving is a classic Kiwi activity, and this video shows exactly how we collect kina while respecting the ocean and the environment. After the dive, I finish the day with an epic catch and cook, preparing a simple but delicious kina recipe using freshly harvested sea urchin. From ocean to plate, this is a true New Zealand seafood foraging experience.
