Beachy Head Marathon 2025 - The Most BRUTAL but BEAUTIFUL Marathon Around?

The Beachy Head Marathon is an iconic, brutal and popular off-road race. Starting from the Eastbourne Seafront, the route takes runners for over 26 miles through stunning sections of the South Downs National Park countryside, passing the villages of Alfriston, Litlington and Jevington, before climaxing with an epic slog along the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs and Beachy head cliff-edge viewpoint, before returning to the Seafront for the finish. Having heard about this race for years, I’d learnt its notoriously challenging with over 4,000 feet of elevation gain, tonnes of varying technical terrain, and plenty of steps and gates to traverse through the route. But, I decided that wasn’t challenging enough for me, oh no. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to run the Beachy Head Marathon exactly 1 week after finishing the Autumn 100, which is a 100-mile ultramarathon by Centurion Running (I’ll link the video below). Still feeling comfortably tired from last week’s ultra and slightly regretting previous self’s optimism to take part, I drove down to Eastbourne and toed the start line with over 1,000 other runners eager to get the race underway and take on this bonanza of marathon trail running. What was the worst that could happen? Here’s my account of the Beachy Head Marathon 2025.
