Steam Shuttles From Cranbourne Cranbourne Steam Train Rides 2026 Steamrail A2986 & K160 Hello all, Welcome to a Victorian heritage train video. Today we’re back to steam shuttles, this time travelling between Cranbourne and Dandenong. A pair of steam locomotives took charge of an all-wooden consist, running in top-and-tail throughout the growing suburbs in the region. This is our second time capturing the shuttles; the last time we were on the line was back in 2023. Taking charge on the east end was locomotive A2986. On the west end, we had special visitor K160 from the VGR, which is awaiting transfer back to Maldon after a successful overhaul at Steamrail’s Newport Workshops. Five shuttles were run between 10AM and 3PM, each being a 50-minute return trip. We begin our coverage at Noble Park on the transfer, then capture the shuttles at various locations on the short section of the Cranbourne branch. This trip was one of the more popular suburban shuttle tours, which saw the train operate locally on Melbourne's metropolitan train network.
