Ep.15 Chegamos em NORMANDIA RR | Lago de CARACARANÃ

We're on the Northeast expedition to the North of the country. We left Aracaju in Sergipe, crossed Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Rondônia, and Amazonas (along BR 319), and now we're in Rio Grande do Norte. We left the municipality of Uiramutã and now head towards the municipality of Normandia, stopping at Lake Caracaranã. Lake Caracaranã is located in the municipality of Normandia, 180 kilometers from Boa Vista and 22 kilometers from the city of Normandia, in Roraima. It has a total perimeter of approximately 5.8 kilometers and an average depth of 3 meters and a maximum of 5 meters. The lake was one of the state's main tourist attractions. However, because it is considered sacred by some Indigenous peoples, it entered the Raposa Serra do Sol continuous demarcation area. After studies and meetings, the CIR and the local community decided to reopen it for tourism, allowing everyone to visit. See more at: https://portalamazonia.com/bora-de-tr... The history of the municipality of Normandia, in Roraima, is linked to the French region of the same name, and its creation took place in 1982. Previously, it was a district of Boa Vista. The local economy, initially based on livestock and rice cultivation, currently has watermelon as its main activity, in addition to tourism in the Lake Caracaranã region. Origin of the Name: The name Normandia was a tribute to the French region where settler Henri Charrière, known as "Papillon," was born. Creation of the Municipality: Normandia was officially created as a municipality in July 1982, through Law No. 7,009, which separated lands from the district of Boa Vista.
