This afternoon started with a call for a small skiff that was having steering trouble somewhere south of the Siesta Key Bridge needing a tow to the Turtle Beach Boat Ramp. I called the customer and he wasn’t sure exactly what island he was on was called, but said he’d send me a pin, which he did a few minutes later (see it is possible to get people to do that 😂). The pin put him on the southwest side of Edwards Island, which I’ve only gone to that corner of the island once before a long time ago. I did end up running aground trying to get to them because I cut the island too close, but no big deal since I was able to easily back off and find a different route. Turns out the customer had broken the steering cables themselves. That’s a new one for me. I’ve had them come loose or break off from the wheel, but never seen them break inside the sleeving. Anyways, I got them in tow and headed to the boat ramp and the rest of that job went smoothly. On the way back, I got a call for a grounding up at Jewfish Key, so headed up there to try and get them free before it got dark.
