Can Hot Lime Wash Transform Our Dark Kitchen?

Our cottage kitchen has always felt dark and a bit oppressive, so we set out to see if we could make it lighter and brighter — using traditional materials and techniques. We experimented with a hot lime wash, made using quick lime, and there’s some spectacular footage of the chemical reaction as it’s mixed! 🌡️🔥 Along the way, we tested lime wash on old ceiling boards and explored other options like gloss paint and sandblasting, but in the end, we discovered that while lime wash dramatically brightened the stone walls, we’ll still need a lot of artificial light to make this space truly functional as a kitchen. This video is a mix of practical renovation, traditional building techniques, and a bit of science. We're Joe and Lydia, and we quit our day jobs to restore our 200-year-old cottage in Wales, and we want to show you as much entertaining and educational content as we can produce.
