(#35) In The Hills Above The Mediterranean Sea

This week I am back to working on my own at the house and I am continuing my work at excavating shale rock that forms the foundations on the ground floor. This is in order to increase head space and to avoid steps between rooms. To start with I am doing the excavation work without any big machines or power tools. This involves uses a pick axe to break up for the surface and then lifting the material into a wheelbarrow. The different seams of shale vary considerably and some are easier to break up. By doing the work by hand I am able to shape some of the rocks that I am lifting out. This will make them more useful in the future, especially the bigger brick shaped rocks and the thin slates. To keep myself amused I came up with some 'quarry work' scores and some analogies. In the middle of the week I took a break from the work with a long bike ride into the hills and forest. On this route you can see the forest tracks, cork trees, streams, old houses, renovated house and more. I stopped for lunch at a very secluded restaurant (Els Metges) and looked at the church next door. I then cycled to the highest point in the hills (Puig D'Arques) and talked about some of the things that could be seen. On the way back I stopped at a megalithic dolmen and a small hamlet in the hills. Before cycling along an old railway line to my final stop for a drink. - - - - chapters - - - - 00:00 intro 00:48 objetive 01:51 tidy up 02:16 rock and process 03:23 details 03:54 rest 04:04 seams 04:29 wall plan 05:18 tidy up 05:48 day 2 06:17 quarry score 07:51 rest 08:10 slates 08:51 fishing! 09:45 trip intro 10:48 road 11:10 track 12:00 cork trees 12:24 ruin 13:30 houses 15:27 restaurant 16:35 church 17:23 inside 19:00 foresty 19:46 puig 23:44 dolmen 25:12 hamlet 26:53 railway line 29:00 drink 30:21 last climb 31:14 back to work 33:12 outro - - - - about my channel and its videos - - - - My channel is about the renovation and restoration of an old stone house on a hill in Catalunya (North East of Spain). The house is near the Costa Brava and has magnificent views of the forest around it and the Mediterranean Sea. The house has many beautiful old features, including its stone walls, vaulted ceilings, ancient terracotta tiles and many quirky parts added over the centuries. At the moment, I am working on the house on my own as I try to turn it into a dream home in harmony with the nature and culture that surrounds it. The house is not in France or Italy and is not a Chateau or Cabin, but I watch and am inspired by channels that are. Especially Martijn Doolaard and Dan Preston's Escape to Rural France. I love Martijn's style, philosophy and cinematography and Dan's energy, humour and ambition. I'm trying to include some of these attributes in my videos.
