(#37) Transforming My Old Stone Walls & A Spring Time Festival
This week I work on renovating and restoring some interior walls in the extension part of the house. This was not possible until the recent builder's work was complete. But now I am able to strip off ancient plaster and lime mortar to bring new life to the walls. Some parts of these walls are in poor condition so I have to be careful. First I chip off the plaster either by hand or with a small power hammer. Then I remove excess mortar from the stones and the joints between them, using a metal brush and a grinder. I then clear away some of the dust using a blower, before further cleaning with some water. I then use a brush to apply some weak acid to the surface to clean off the lime mortar. After cleaning the walls I then have to tidy up and remove plenty of dust and dirt. This week is also the annual Flower Festival in the city of Girona (Temps de Flores). I manage to go there late one afternoon for a fast walk around the medieval streets and the flower displays. I then review my work with some before and after comparisons. And finally I give an explanation about an area of the house I had not been sure about. It appears that it might be the remains of a structure for crushing grapes and producing wine. Next week I will probably be back excavating rock from the floor, which I hope to have some help with. - - - - chapters - - - - 00:00 intro 00:41 work intro 01:08 prep 01:39 wall 1 02:57 wood block 03:31 wall 2 04:03 drill hammer 04:52 grinder brush 05:43 day 2 06:42 water wash 07:29 upstairs 09:14 power hammer 11:11 grinder & dust 12:08 day 3 12:50 spray clean 14:22 lunch & swallows 15:25 next wall 17:22 tile catch 18:17 chisel 20:30 day 4 21:52 wall cleaning 23:08 down below 23:54 tidy & exit 24:39 girona flowers 25:43 streets & displays 26:31 old centre 27:30 street steps 28:39 cathedral 30:08 old centre 2 32:10 heading out 32:50 work review 34:10 downstairs 34:56 an explanation 36:51 outro - - - - about my channel and its videos - - - - My channel is about the renovation and restoration of an old stone house on a hill in Catalunya (North East of Spain). The house is near the Costa Brava and has magnificent views of the forest around it and the Mediterranean Sea. The house has many beautiful old features, including its stone walls, vaulted ceilings, ancient terracotta tiles and many quirky parts added over the centuries. At the moment, I am working on the house on my own as I try to turn it into a dream home in harmony with the nature and culture that surrounds it. The house is not in France or Italy and is not a Chateau or Cabin, but I watch and am inspired by channels that are. Especially Martijn Doolaard and Dan Preston's Escape to Rural France. I love Martijn's style, philosophy and cinematography and Dan's energy, humour and ambition. I'm trying to include some of these attributes in my videos.
