Speed King! 6024 King Edward 1 at High Speed, A Reminder 2010 -2012
Here is a short compilation of choice HD footage captured in the last three years of mainline certification showing the King in full cry. A gourmet feast for the eyes and ears of a much missed, true “star” of mainline performance and spectacle, in order to whet your appetite for her long awaited return to the mainline, now expected to be 2026 after Covid and other delays. Shown in route order from London to Cornwall and back. Starting at Cholsey, where much has changed over the intervening years! The line is now festooned in overhead wires and the ugliest gantries on the Network and the famous cooling towers at Didcot are long gone having been demolished on 18th August 2019. The remaining locations however are mercifully little changed today as we see KE1 charging across the Somerset Levels at Oath, the Exminster Marshes and Exe Estuary near Powderham, the River Teign at Flow Point, Liskeard (for a wonderful acceleration to the summit at the A38 overbridge) and finally Exminster, appropriately as the sun goes down and the last place I filmed her. My cameras (now UHD) are ready for when she re-appears at the same spot! I can’t wait!!!
