赤木川 と 小口の郷 と 熊野古道雲取越え │ Akagi river runs through Koguchi village , Wakayama

熊野古道（熊野参詣道）の中でも雲取越え（大雲取越え・小雲取越え）は落差の激しい山深い登山道が長距離に渡って続く最も難ルートだと言えます。那智から続く前半の大雲取越えを走破すれば、中継点の宿場にたどり着きます。熊野川の支流の一つである赤木川が流れるそこは「小口」と呼ばれ、古くから熊野古道を歩く多くの登山者が体を休めてきた素朴な山里です。集落から少し歩き「小和瀬の渡し場跡」より赤木川に架けられた橋を渡ると、小雲取越えの登山道となり、熊野本宮大社へと続きます。 The Akagi River flows through the Kii Mountains of Japan.
