(5 Jul 1997) T/I: 10:18:36 Gunfire and several loud explosions were heard Saturday (5/7) coming from the capital's suburbs just hours after factional clashes erupted some 15 kilometers (nine miles) southwest of Phnom Penh. In Phnom Penh, sporadic bursts of gunfire in the distance could be heard at the Council of Ministers where senior CPP officials were meeting with diplomats resident in Phnom Penh.
