You have seen this place in movies like RRR and Raees, just that they may have seemed like a film set to you. But no, this place called Vohrawad exists in Siddhpur in North Gujarat. It consists of rows upon rows of ancestral homes of Dawoodi Bohras with each house more beautiful than the other. Some call it the Paris of Gujarat, and the European influence is quite evident. However, Vohrawad is so much more than that. Most houses today are vacant as business has taken the Dawoodi Bohras to greener pastures. But the glory remains. In this episode we trace the beginnings of Vohrawad which started besides the bank of river Saraswati with Dawoodi Bohras landing in Gujarat and establishing a culture here. With architecture inspired by the adjoining Rudra Mahalaya. We look at the Rudra Mahalaya as well but only from outside as entry is currently prohibited. Then they shifted to bigger plots near the station and along with way, they have blessed us with some beautiful looking structures. We also met with a local who took us to his home and hence we were able to see one of these houses from inside as well. Words fall short to appreciate the hospitality of Dawoodi Bohras!
