X-Men '97 Keeps Winning | Episode 5 Review

In this video, I review Episode 5 of X-Men '97 Season 2, and once again Marvel delivers another fantastic episode. If you've followed my X-Men '97 coverage, you know I came into this season with one major concern: Could the show maintain its quality without Beau DeMayo? So far, the answer has been... Yes. Season 2 has continued to honor the comics with incredible attention to detail, strong character writing, and meaningful callbacks to classic X-Men storylines. While Beau DeMayo completed much of the early creative work before departing the series, the production team has continued building on that foundation, and the first half of the season has been widely praised for maintaining the show's emotional depth and comic-book authenticity. (gamesradar.com) For many fans, Episode 4 may remain the standout because of its huge impact on the overall story. But for me? Episode 5 was even better. Why? Because it feels like a classic Wolverine story. Instead of spending most of its runtime setting up future plotlines or expanding the Marvel universe, the episode focuses on Logan himself—his struggles, his instincts, and the qualities that have made him one of Marvel's most beloved characters for decades. That's something I miss in a lot of modern superhero projects. Everything doesn't need to set up another movie or another season. Sometimes it's enough to tell a great story about one great character. That's exactly what Episode 5 does. The action is brutal, the emotional moments land, and Wolverine feels like the Wolverine fans have loved since the comics and the original animated series. It's focused. It's personal. And it's exactly the kind of storytelling I want to see more of. At this point, Season 2 is off to a fantastic start. I'm still not ready to say it's better than Season 1, because Season 1 had some unforgettable moments and a complete story arc. But after five episodes... Marvel has definitely earned my optimism. 🎬 In this video: My full Episode 5 review Why Wolverine shines in this episode Episode 5 vs. Episode 4 The comic-book references you may have missed Whether Season 2 can surpass Season 1 My predictions for the rest of the season 👇 Let me know: Which episode did you prefer—Episode 4 or Episode 5? And do you agree that sometimes a standalone character-focused story is better than nonstop universe-building?
