Traveling along the JR Obama Line in Fukui Prefecture, I explore the peaceful landscapes of Wakasa. On this second day of the journey, I cycle around Lake Kugushi, one of the Five Lakes of Mikata, starting from Mikata Station. In Wakasa-Takahama, I walk along crystal-clear waters and beautiful white sandy beaches. Quiet harbor towns, a local seaside restaurant, and sunset views from the train window. At Higashi-Maizuru, the final stop of the Obama Line, I explore a town shaped by naval history and visit the historic Shoeikan, a former inn once used by the Imperial Japanese Navy. The next morning, I head to Tane-dera Temple, hidden deep in the mountains of Maizuru.
