【終点まで行ってみたい】秋風吹く根室本線_滝川～富良野_炭鉱の記憶をたどる旅

In the heart of Hokkaido, I traveled from Takikawa to Furano— a quiet and scenic stretch of the Nemuro Main Line, riding a local train through peaceful autumn landscapes. The day before, heavy rain had shut down the Hanasaki Line, forcing a sudden change of plans. Departing from Takikawa, I passed through Akabira and Ashibetsu, arriving in Furano as the crisp autumn wind began to blow. At the terminal, I walked through the town and visited Furano Shrine, then stopped in Akabira to climb the symbolic “Zuri-yama” —an artificial hill built from coal mine waste— and reflected on the legacy of Japan’s once-thriving mining towns.
