I traveled through Wakasa in Fukui Prefecture by riding the JR Obama Line from Tsuruga. In this trip, I begin in Tsuruga and continue toward the final stop, Higashi-Maizuru. On day one, I visit Lake Mikata, one of the famous Mikata Five Lakes. While exploring Jomon archaeological sites and plum orchards, I walk all the way to Sekumi, a quiet seaside village. • A peaceful local railway • Calm lake scenery • Plum blossoms in spring • A small fishing village hidden beyond the mountains This is not a famous tourist destination. But the journey is filled with the quiet and gentle scenery that makes Wakasa so special.
