Woodturning - Rose Bowl: A Live-edge Pink Ivory Burl Dish

Rose Bowl is a square(-ish) dish turned from a beautiful pink ivory burl (burr). When visiting Dalmann UK on a very quiet Wednesday morning last week we were approached by another customer and asked, "do you like burrs?" like he had an inside scoop... and he did! They were cutting blanks from some pink ivory when Neil of ‪@NeilsWoodcraft‬ noticed the burr showing up and intervened. Then he let us know about it. Thanks, Neil! The timber was sustainably-sourced from Dalmann's operations in southern Africa. The dish is named for the rose-like figure appearing in the wood. The completed piece is finished with several applications of food-safe tung oil. Dimensions: This mostly-square dish is 8 inches (20cm) across the cut sides, and 8 to 10 inches (20 to 25cm) across its live edges, with diagonal measurements of 12 inches (30cm) height: about 1¼ inches / about 3 centimetres --- 0:00 Intro: Preparing to turn 0:40 Turning the underside 3:52 Turning the top 6:20 Finishing -- We are also avid garden birdwatchers, and we maintain a birdfeeding livestream channel.
