Woodturning - Monstrous Cherry Burl!
I found this cherry burl at a shop in Ohio last year. It probably weighed 75 pounds as it was still pretty wet. I’ve been working on turning it into a giant bowl for the last several months since I had to keep allowing it to dry as I worked on various parts. The process of turning this into art was a lot more intense than I expected. It was just basic woodturning techniques, though I did have to get a lathe extension to make it possible. Still, turning it at less than 400 RPM for most of the process took FOREVER! I really thought it was never going to be done. There was a significant issue when I started hollowing it out in that the shake kept causing pieces of the interior to flake off. I finally decided to leave a number of those voids as part of the final piece as I didn’t think I was going to be able to get it truly smooth. The final result is a 24”, giant bowl that is full of incredible figuring and grain. Truly stunning! HTTP://www.caswoodcraft.com Http://etsy.com/shop/caswoodcraft
