Turning 7 mismatched pieces into a HUGE set!

This has been one of the biggest and most rewarding custom projects I’ve taken on — a full 7-piece bedroom suite that originally included nothing that matched. Over the last several weeks, I refinished every single piece into a cohesive modern farmhouse set, and in this video you’ll see the entire transformation from start to finish. The set included: • A very damaged hope chest • A long dresser • A tall dresser • Two nightstands • A bed frame • A large mirror Every piece came to me in a different finish, different wood type, and different condition. My client wanted them all refinished in the same modern farmhouse style so the entire room would look intentional and coordinated — even though none of these pieces originally went together. Nightstands & Dressers: I stripped the tops to bare wood, cleaned with lacquer thinner, and sanded everything smooth. Contour sanding blocks handled the edges, and my SurfPrep was essential for all the curves and details. After applying pre-stain conditioner, I used Briar Smoke penetrating stain as the base, then added Hickory gel stain for depth and richness. Once sealed with shellac and several coats of topcoat, each piece went into the spray tent for primer, paint, and a durable finish. The original patina hardware was reused to maintain that vintage charm. Bed Frame & Mirror: The bed wasn’t part of the original bedroom suite — my clients actually found it on Marketplace — so matching it to the rest of the set was a challenge I was excited to take on. After cleaning and sanding, I masked everything off and sprayed the bed frame and mirror in the same color and topcoat system as the rest of the pieces, creating a seamless look. You would never know these weren’t originally part of the same collection. Hope Chest: This piece arrived with significant damage but also had beautiful potential. After repairs, sanding, stain work, and refinishing, it now blends perfectly with the rest of the suite and adds incredible charm to the set. Piece by piece, this entire collection was brought together with consistent finishes, tones, hardware choices, and high-end durability. What started as seven unrelated pieces now looks like a designer-curated bedroom set — and my client is thrilled with the final transformation.
