A dramatic makeover for an ordinary, plain Armoire

This Thomasville armoire went from bland to bold with a dramatic custom makeover. My client had already worked with me to refinish a pair of vintage nightstands, and this matching armoire was the final piece to complete the set. The goal: transform it into something cohesive, elegant, and far from ordinary. I kicked things off with a deep clean and thorough sanding, followed by a few minor scratch repairs. Once prepped, it was ready for primer and paint. I chose a bold, deep black to mirror the nightstands and give the entire set a striking, modern feel. To add warmth and contrast, I stripped the top drawer down to bare wood, then restained and sealed it for both durability and depth. The transformation was finished with sleek new gold hardware—simple, modern, and just the right amount of shine. This once-ordinary piece now has a bold, timeless presence and fits perfectly with the custom-designed nightstands.
