He left behind a void as enormous as the legacy of his teachings. Thank you, Ettore.” The mayor of Mortara was the victim of a car accident last Friday while riding his BMW scooter along provincial road 16 between San Giorgio and Ottobiano, where the family tomb is located. The details of the accident are under investigation: Gerosa lost control of the scooter, struck a road sign, and ended up in a 1.5-meter-deep canal that runs parallel to the road. It is still unclear whether he was affected by a sudden illness, an unexpected obstacle encountered on the road, or an incorrect maneuver. The Carabinieri investigating the case have ruled out the involvement of other vehicles. The results of the autopsy on his body will be released in 90 days.
