Dirt Devil Ultra MVP 089200 Upright Vacuum

This is a Dirt Devil Ultra MVP Upright Vacuum, model 089200 that I bought from a local Goodwill in my area. I've been really wanting to find an Ultra MVP ever since I owned a Eureka Excalibur (   • Eureka Excalibur 6426 Upright Vacuum  ) a while ago which was a comparable vacuum of the time, and this was meant to be the direct competitor to that. When I got this, it had none of its attachments or hose (for some reason), but I managed to score a NOS hose for this and it now works just as it should, but I still will need to find some attachments for it. This was one of the first series of vacuums from Dirt Devil to feature dual motor technology, which was made to compete with the Eureka Excalibur back then, but its brush roll operates a little bit different than how Eureka did it. The way the dual motor system works on this is that the brush roll is always on unless you slide the carpet height adjustment to the lowest setting to where the position reads "brush roll stop", and that depresses a micro switch that controls the brush roll motor and shuts off the brush roll for cleaning bare floors, which was a bit odd for a dual motor vacuum compared to most others that used a 3 position power (like the Excalibur) switch to turn on and off the brush roll. The great thing about having dual motors in a vacuum, is it gives you the ability to turn the brush roll off for cleaning bare floors, which not many full size uprights can do since their brush rolls usually keep rotating and that causes dirt to spit behind the vacuum instead of picking it up. This features a 12 amp motor (10 amp suction motor, and 2 amp brush roll motor) with clean air design and takes Dirt Devil Style U bags (this example is rigged to run a Hoover Type Y HEPA cloth bag which is utilized by trimming the collar to fit the bag holder). The suction is not the best in tool mode, but the airflow is AMAZING (this is probably one of the best performing clean air upright vacuums in terms of airflow back in its day, even beating out the comparable Excalibur), and the agitation is pretty good as well thanks to that massive airflow. My only complaints about this machine is that it's quite heavy when lifting it up and down stairs, and the vacuum has very vulnerable plastic (typical of Dirt Devil being that they're a value brand) that does tend to break very easily over time. Overall this is a great vacuum and is definitely one of Dirt Devil's better vacuums.
