[Race Overview] This is the only international GI race in regional racing, and it's a highly anticipated final race for dirt horse racing at the end of the year. Since the 1995 exchange with the central circuit, Adjudi Mitsuo (Funabashi) was the first to achieve back-to-back victories in 2004 and 2005. Smart Falcon (JRA) followed in 2010 and 2011, and Hokuto Tarumae (JRA) in 2013 and 2014. From 2018 to 2021, Omega Perfume (JRA) achieved four consecutive victories in a domestic GI/JpnI race, a first in history. In addition, Uxbatesoro, who won the Dubai World Cup GI the following year, achieved consecutive victories in this race. (Osamu Saito) [History] The first race was held in 1955 as the "Autumn Saddle" over 2,600 meters. It was extended to 3,000 meters in 1962 and renamed the Tokyo Daishoten in 1964. The last time the race was held over 3,000 meters, in 1988, it was won by Inariwan, who later transferred to the JRA and became Horse of the Year. In 1989, when the era name changed to Heisei, the race was extended to 2,800 meters, and Rosita, who won the Southern Kanto Triple Crown that year, won the race. Until 1994, it was a Grade 1 race limited to the Southern Kanto region, but in 1995 it became a national exchange race with the JRA, and in 1997 it was upgraded to Grade 1 status. In 1998, the distance was extended to the current 2,000 meters, and since 1999 it has been held on December 29th, establishing it as the year-end dirt final race.
