[Race Introduction] Formerly the "Derby" of South Kanto, with the reorganization of the dirt racing system, it became a JRA exchange JpnI race from 2024, becoming the second leg of the new 3-year-old dirt triple crown. For local horses, priority entry into this race is granted to the top three finishers in the first leg of the Triple Crown, the Haneda Cup (JpnI), the top finisher (top two) in the Unicorn Stakes (GIII), and the winners of the Crown Cup and Tokyo Bay Cup. For JRA horses, priority entry is granted to the top three finishers (top five) in the Haneda Cup (JpnI) and the top finisher (top two) in the Unicorn Stakes (GIII). (Hayato Kurita) [History] Along with the Tokyo Daishoten (GI), it has the longest history among the graded stakes races at Ohi Racecourse. It began in 1955 at 2000m, became 2400m from 1967, and returned to 2000m in 1999. In 2023, the last year it was held as a South Kanto Classic, Mick Fire (Ohi) achieved an undefeated Tokyo Derby victory, the first since Adjudi Mitsuo (Funabashi) in 2004. From 2024, it was classified as a JpnI race, becoming the second leg of the dirt Triple Crown, including JRA races.
