Top GI/JpnI-class horses from the JRA often compete in this race as their first race of the fall in preparation for the dirt GI/JpnI races, making this a highly competitive JpnII race. Since Smart Falcon in 2011, JRA horses have won for 10 consecutive years, but in 2021 and 2022, local Southern Kanto horses have won consecutively. In recent years, it has also served as a stepping stone to overseas competition, as seen in the 2011 victory of Ushbatesoro, followed by the 2012 second-place finish of Ushbatesoro and the 5th-place finish of Delmasotogake, who subsequently traveled to the Breeders' Cup Classic GI in the United States.
