Podcast: Mord am Millionär | Aktenzeichen XY #107
76-year-old Dieter Hoffmann* leads a modest and extremely frugal life in Wiesbaden. No one would suspect that the single pensioner, who wears shabby clothes, shops at discount stores, and switches off his refrigerator to save electricity when traveling, is actually a multimillionaire. His wealth is known primarily to a few close friends in the neighborhood with whom he is in daily contact. They immediately notice that the man and his dog Luna have been missing without a trace since August 16, 2023. The police notice numerous inconsistencies that argue against the missing man's voluntary disappearance: His cell phone and car were left behind, and his beloved Weimaraner was taken to an animal shelter. At the latest, when the officers find blood and broken glass on the bedroom floor and an unknown person wearing a carnival mask withdraws money from the pensioner's account, they realize: They are dealing with a violent crime. Retired Chief Detective Stefan Lange is a guest in the recording studio with Rudi Cerne and Nicola Haenisch-Korus. He headed the K11 unit at the West Hesse Police Headquarters in Wiesbaden for many years and recounts the perpetrator's perfidious plan to cover up a murder. Also interviewed is Sabine Ohlrogge, forensic anthropologist and expert witness. She explains what is crucial in a comparative analysis of images and individuals, which physical characteristics are suitable for identification, and where the limits of such image analysis lie.
