Podcast: Wie ein Auto zum entscheidenden Beweisstück eines Cold Case wurde | Aktenzeichen XY #100

On September 11, 1993, a passerby discovered the body of a young woman on a forest path in the Czech region of Franzensbad, a few kilometers from the German border. She had been strangled. Almost simultaneously, police in Gera, Thuringia, investigated several cars that had been broken into, including a red Wartburg. The driver of the car found the identity card of a young Czech woman inside a short time later. At that point, no one suspected that a much larger crime lay behind the routine police action for property damage. Only when it became clear months later that the crimes were connected did the criminal investigation department begin years of cross-border investigations. Cooperation between the two countries was slow for a long time after the dissolution of the Eastern Bloc. Then, in 2004 – eleven years after the murder – the legal situation changed with the Czech Republic's accession to the EU, simplifying the exchange of information between authorities. Now, every small detail in the files was reviewed again. Guest in the recording studio with Rudi Cerne and Conny Neumeyer is retired Chief Detective Wolfgang Albert, who was initially an investigator and later head of the police station in Gera. He talks about a perpetrator who wanted to get his way at any cost. Also interviewed is Prof. Dr. Arndt Sinn. The criminal law expert from the University of Osnabrück explains why cross-border investigations were so challenging at the time. #zdfturecrime #aktenzeichenxy #podcast #rudicerne #czechrepublic Credits: Hosts: Rudi Cerne, Conny Neumeyer Guest: Retired Chief Detective Wolfgang Albert, Gera Criminal Police Inspectorate Expert: Prof. Dr. Arndt Sinn, Professor of Criminal Law, among other subjects European Criminal Law, University of Osnabrück Author of this episode: Jan Vogelgesang Audio Production & Technology: Christina Maier, Sebastian Muxeneder Post-Production Management: Stephan Gossen Production Management Securitel: Marion Biefeld Production Management Bumm Film: Melanie Graf, Nina Kuhn Production Management ZDF: Julian Best Head of Digital Editorial Department Securitel: Nicola Haenisch-Korus Producer Securitel: René Carl Producer Bumm Film: Nico Krappweis Editorial Team Securitel: Katharina Jakob, Zoë Jungblut Editorial Team ZDF: Sonja Roy, Kirsten Zielonka Director Bumm Film: David Gromer
