It would be a big mistake to miss this historic opportunity for European integration. Over time, Russia has demonstrated its attitude towards Moldova through political pressure, economic and energy blackmail. In this context, it is worth appreciating the fact that President Maia Sandu and the PAS government have pursued the diversification of energy sources and the reorientation of exports to the European Union market, thus reducing the country's vulnerabilities. Currently, Russia's influence on the Republic of Moldova is manifested mainly through propaganda tools and the unresolved situation in the Transnistrian region, which continues to pose a challenge to the security and stability of the state. About the Union: this scenario was largely compromised by Plahotniuc's oligarchic regime, but also by influences coming from the Kremlin, through characters like Diana Soșoacă and other dubious names who are trying to discredit a historical event and our ties with the Romanian people. But we have to be honest: today there is no strong Romanian spirit that would determine more citizens of the Republic of Moldova to want the Union, as happened in the late 80s and early 90s, when the Flower Bridges demonstrated the desire for rapprochement between people on both banks of the Prut. Even though over a million citizens of the Republic of Moldova hold Romanian citizenship, the reality is that the ties between us are built not only through documents, but through experiences and human relationships.
