Santa Cruz Island: Channel Islands NP backpacking
Steve, his 10-year-old son Stefan, and friends Doug and Joe backpack across eastern Santa Cruz Island in Channel Islands National Park. The route covers 14.7 backpacking miles and was carried out on May 1-3, 2023. Highlights include seeing Island foxes, Island scrub-jays, other birds, abundant wildflowers, and continuously changing ocean views. Challenges encountered include dealing with rough seas, high winds, carrying extra water, and crossing canyons.
