Bl. Franz - Husband and Father, a Man of Courage in Scandal and Martyrdom

Know this man -- Bl. Franz Jägerstätter! He was an Austrian farmer who heroically kept his Catholic faith and followed his conscience -- and therefore refused to swear allegiance to Hitler. In this talk, I tell a bit about his pilgrim journey, his beautiful marriage and family, his peaceful perseverance through scandal in the Church (as many Catholics, laymen and cleric alike, supported Nazism and gave him bad advice), and his courageous fidelity to his life of prayer and conscience before God. We could learn a lot from Bl. Franz and his wife. Our times, too, are fraught with ideologies and temptations to compromise our faith or betray our conscience. We, too, must learn the importance of prayer and striving for a deep and intelligent formation in our faith. We, too, must support families as they courageously strive -- with all the delights of love -- to help every member discover God's will and reach eternity together.
