An Odyssey Through Ithaca | Retracing Odysseus' Steps

Welcome to Ithaca, Greece, the legendary home of Odysseus and one of the most fascinating islands in the Ionian Sea. We set out on our own modern-day odyssey to uncover the myths, history, hidden villages, and breathtaking landscapes that make Ithaca one of Greece's most underrated destinations. Our journey begins at Dexia Beach, believed by many to be the place where Odysseus first stepped ashore after returning home in The Odyssey. We continue to the mysterious Cave of the Nymphs, where legend says Odysseus hid the gifts given to him by the Phaeacians, before visiting the historic Arethousa Fountain, associated with the faithful swineherd Eumaeus. Along the way, we stop at the incredible viewpoint near Kathara Monastery, wander through the charming village of Anogi, the oldest village on Ithaca, and explore the postcard-perfect harbor town of Kioni, one of the most beautiful villages in the Greek Islands. No visit to Ithaca would be complete without diving into the mystery surrounding Odysseus' palace. We visit the School of Homer, Pilikata, and Alalkomeneis to explore the leading archaeological theories about the true location of the legendary king's palace. We also stop at Polis Bay, where archaeologists discovered artifacts, including a fragment of a 2nd-century BC terracotta mask inscribed with the name of Odysseus, adding even more intrigue to Ithaca's incredible history. Of course, we couldn't leave without enjoying authentic Greek food and tasting Rovani, Ithaca's famous traditional dessert.
