Perito Moreno Glacier is DISAPPEARING? (Patagonia Argentina Travel Guide)

Is the Perito Moreno glacier actually shrinking? We talked to local experts and looked at the data during our Patagonia trip. This stunning glacier in El Calafate was once one of the few remaining stable glaciers in Patagonia, however, over the last few years it has been shrinking — and is now facing an irreversible decline. Seeing these huge chunks of ice fall from the glacier is incredible, but also heartbreaking. The loud cracks and thunderous blows as chunks hit the water echoed out over the walkways almost constantly during our visit — and it all ended with the mightiest one yet. Right at the end of our visit, huge amounts of ice began falling, and then the largest piece yet floated up from beneath the water, revealing the darkest blues of the deep, deep ice. We were conflicted the whole time.
