Suasana Acara Berubah Tegang, Mentan Amran Komentari Film Pesta Babi: Saya dan Negara Difitnah

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman gave a lengthy response when asked by a student about issues raised in the film "Pesta Babi" (Pest of the Pig) at the 65th anniversary of the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IPM) on Saturday (July 18, 2026). The question was posed by Muhammad Tamam Setiaji, a student representing the Banten delegation from South Tangerang City. In his question, Tamam touched on the importance of the younger generation having an open mindset about the potential of natural resources and development opportunities. Tamam also expressed his concerns about information that could influence the younger generation's perspectives, including issues regarding land management in eastern Indonesia. In response, Amran stated that the younger generation needs to view information based on facts. He then addressed the accusations he believes are circulating regarding the rice field program and agricultural development in Papua. "There's slander all over the place. One example is that the price of land is 100, which is a very cruel slander against the government, including me," Amran said. Amran explained that the government has provided various forms of support to the community through agricultural programs, including assistance with agricultural machinery, the development of supporting infrastructure, and the formation of food brigades. He stated that a number of government aid programs are aimed at improving the welfare of the people, not for the personal interests of the state. On that occasion, Amran also presented testimonies from beneficiaries of agricultural programs in Papua. He stated that local people can earn income from managing agricultural land provided through government programs. Amran also responded to the issue of the film "Pesta Babi," which he said portrayed government programs inconsistently with the conditions he saw on the ground. He urged the younger generation to compare information with facts and directly observe community testimonies. "In your opinion, as a young Muslim, did you see the film? Do you believe it or is this? Tell all your friends, interview them," Amran said. Furthermore, Amran explained that agricultural development programs are also being implemented in various other regions, such as Sumatra and Kalimantan. He questioned why, he believed, these issues were more prevalent when the agricultural program began in Papua. Amran emphasized that the government wants all people, including Papuans, to have the opportunity to improve their welfare through agricultural development. During the dialogue, Amran also expressed his openness to criticism and requested that debates regarding government programs be based on facts. He then urged the younger generation of IPM not to easily accept information without verifying and understanding the situation firsthand.
