Inside New Zealand’s Biggest Bread Factory

Inside New Zealand’s biggest bread factory, we go behind the scenes, meeting the people who help produce over 8,700 muffins per hour and one million loaves per week. In our first ever episode of Meet The Maker, we step inside NZ’s largest commercial bakery for a rare factory tour revealing how bread and muffin splits are mass produced at scale. From dough mixing, dividing and proving to griddle baking, cooling, slicing and packaging. This is large-scale food manufacturing in Aotearoa, told through the people who make it possible. But without people, feeding New Zealand at this magnitude is near-impossible. We meet the bakers, machine operators and quality controllers who keep New Zealand’s breakfast tables stocked every day. We meet one of many loyal team members, Pele who has worked here for 23 years, and explore how one factory feeds cafés, restaurants and households across New Zealand. A heartfelt thank you to the entire QBA team for generously opening your doors and sharing your craft with us, especially Duncan, for showing that even in a 24/7 operation, caring for people comes first. We’re also deeply grateful to Kevin from Beaufort + Co, whose chef’s lens and curiosity helped us experience the factory floor through the eyes of hospitality. Produced proudly in sponsored collaboration with Goodman Fielder, whose support enables us to tell the stories of the hardworking people behind the products New Zealand relies on every single day.
