DJ Rusher & DJ Funky Flirt | MC Shabba D & MC Shockin B | Weekend Rush | Old School Jungle Set 1994

Recorded in 1994 at the peak of Weekend Rush FM's supremacy on London's FM dial, in the mid 90s. Weekend Rush FM began broadcasting from the towers of Nightingale Estate, Hackney, in 1991 as a London pirate radio station firstly on 92.5FM dial. In 1993, Weekend Rush later took over 92.3FM dial. They played Hardcore and Jungle music at the the time. There were a number of pirate radio stations broadcasting in London city throughout that era. In 1994, the station received harsh publicity from London television channels and the UK press after their pirate radio station became the spotlight of negative media attention. The media cooked up a fabricated story about the local pirate station run by Hackney residents was a drug den. They over sensationalised the story which was a governmental push to control the airwaves because each dial was revenue for them and they wanted to raise revenue from licensing and help drive the commercialisation of radio and gentrification of council estates under the Thatcherite government. The Tory government wanted to clamp down on pirate radio stations with an iron fist and they aided the DTI along with the Metropolitan police to carry out many raids on studios and put pressure on councils to curb their activity. Another side of this argument was that the government endorsed private ventures and supported big business and not that of local organic projects run by local disaffected youth with no future prospects in some of London and the UK's poorest neighbourhoods. Weekend Rush FM were sadly taken off air in late 1995. Many of their performers went to Kool FM 94.5 a neighbouring pirate radio station which also played Jungle music. Big up all producers/DJs and MCs who performed on the station: Brainkillers (DJ Apache, DJ Unknown & MC Fearless), DJ Red Ant, DJ Fox, Dica, Vitamin, Rizla, DJ Rusher, DJ Remarc, DJ Funky Flirt, DJ Sparkx, Sharkeye, DJ XLS, DJ PW Mix It, DJ Uno, Mark One, DJ Frenzy, DJ Aztec, DM Cut, X Rated Crew, DJ Ricochet, DJ Fly, DJ SL (A Team Supreme Team), DJ Dextrous & MC Rude Boy Keith (Kings Of The Jungle), DJ Ital, DJ Red Hand, DJ Crystal, DJ Spider, Rage, Spice, Fairplay, Stamina, Naf Naf, DJ Outlaw, Marley Marl, Blue Max, DJ Tony T, DJ Spanna, 3 BASE, Vinyl Grooves, DJ Digital, DJ Ruthless B, MC Fearless, MC Shabba D (SASASAS), MC Wonder, MC Reg, MC Shockin B, MC Concrete, MC Gaffa, MC MJ and MC Dollars (Freek FM).
