1.23 Выступление левых эсеров и восстания в июле 1918 года

"The Most Instructive Century" opens the lecture series on the "Cultural Code" channel. Historian Alexander Shubin talks about the 20th century – the most dramatic and tragic in Russian history. This is an exceptional experience that will be useful to all of us in the 21st century. Lecture 23. The Left Socialist Revolutionaries and the July 1918 Uprising The summer of 1918 is unpredictable and dynamic. The fate of Soviet power hangs in the balance. The Left Socialist Revolutionaries, the last influential Soviet opposition party, want to break the Brest-Litovsk Treaty and return Russia to the war. The Fifth Congress of Soviets: power to the Soviets or to the Bolsheviks? Shots ring out in the German embassy in Moscow – Ambassador Wilhelm von Mirbach is killed. Germany sends a note of protest to the Soviet government demanding the deployment of a German battalion to protect diplomats. Chaos reigns in the Russian capital; the Cheka building is seized by Socialist Revolutionaries. Latvian Riflemen arrive to assist the Bolsheviks in suppressing the rebels. At the same time, an anti-Bolshevik uprising breaks out in Yaroslavl. On the Eastern Front, General Muravyov, seeking to unite with the Czechoslovak Corps, mutinies and declares a march on Moscow. Muravyov is killed, Yaroslavl is burned, and the Socialist Revolutionaries face repression.
