We conducted an exhibition tour with Fukuoka Mayor Soichiro Takashima of contemporary artist Mr.'s first solo exhibition in Japan, "We'll Surely Meet Again on a Sunny Day Someday." Mr. himself said he "went over 150%," as the venue, including the wallpaper, is covered in his designs, creating a space where visitors are immersed not just in viewing artwork, but in "Mr.'s World." From a self-portrait installation reminiscent of an "otaku's messy room," to a sculpture that sublimates Yankee culture, to giant bagworms and caterpillars that have traveled through New York and Seattle, and even studies from when he failed his art school entrance exams four years ago—the history of Mr. as an artist, growing up in the soil of Japan, is packaged within a single space. Mayor Soichiro Takashima of Fukuoka carefully toured the venue, providing precise explanations. As someone who regularly collects art and creates paintings, Mr. Takashima, a true connoisseur of this world, was able to unravel the essence of Mr.'s art. Furthermore, Mayor Takashima has given his seal of approval, stating that holding a solo exhibition at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum—"the world's only museum systematically housing modern and contemporary Asian art"—has special significance! Mr.'s solo exhibition, "We'll Surely Meet Again on a Sunny Day," is currently being held at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum from April 24th (Fri) to June 21st (Sun), 2026.
