The Electro-Motive Division (EMD) SW1500 was introduced in the late 1960s as a switcher. SP had over 200 of these at one point, and many of them lasted through the UP merger in 1996. Around 1995, Dan took some photos of Southern Pacific SW1500 2670 parked in the small yard in South San Francisco, California. Later on Dan transformed an old Athearn "blue box" SW1500 into a replica of this engine. Dan repainted the engine and added many details. This engine had the weathered red SP lettering on the sides, the result of neglect not intent. The headlights are done with fiber optics and warm white LEDs. It has a LokSound DCC and sound decoder, and the original motor was upgraded to a can motor. This one runs as good as it looks!
