It is currently being destroyed by successive wars in our region. The beginning of this destruction is rooted in the discovery of oil on our land. Black gold has attracted the greedy gaze of the world powers, especially the West, and each of them is vying under different guises and pretexts for control of the liquid gold flowing beneath our feet. Under the guise of liberation and progress, they have turned my country into a battlefield. Amid this chaos, my civilization teeters on the brink of collapse as the prime victim. An ancient and indigenous nation has been stripped of all vitality and productive capacity and reduced to a parasite dependent solely on oil. With this plan, we have been deprived of our identity and sovereignty, our past and present have been destroyed, and our future is uncertain. This two-part artwork emerges in the wake of devastation and the roots of oblivion of a people: The first piece is a 5-minute, 53-second video in which I pre-molded my face with clay in the shape of a Mesopotamian statue. The figure is then gradually bathed in oil black, erasing its form until it is completely naked and loses its urban identity.
