Young Peacebuilders Creating a Change
At 29, Najda is working to build peace in her community, El Abbasiya in Sudan’s South Kordofan, by mediating and resolving disputes. Her community struggles with conflict, bordering a disputed area held by armed groups and facing tribal tensions and competition for natural resources. With a group of other young people in a peacebuilding committee, Najda and her friends are working to address local conflicts and risks to peace. They have resolved disputes between farmers and pastoralists, tribes, and local officials and communities. Najda is part of more than 480 conflict-resolution networks supported across Sudan by UNDP to improve peace and stability.
