Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope - 40 Years On

Terrance Stanley – or Terry – Fox was an athlete, humanitarian, cancer research activist, and one of the most cherished Canadian Heroes of all time. In 1980, with one leg amputated from his own cancer treatment – Terry Fox set off on his Marathon of Hope, with an initial goal to run east-west the entire way across Canada and to raise one million dollars for Cancer research. Although he was forced to stop short of his goal, and ultimately lost his battle to cancer – Terry’s legacy lives on and is stronger than ever forty years later – his goal of one million has been met 800 times over.. and the annual Terry Fox Run continues to be the largest single-day fundraiser for cancer research in the entire world.
