Are you looking for a biomechanics consultation in Monza and Brianza and are approaching or over 40? Are you wondering what type of riding position a cyclist over 40 should choose? I've been providing biomechanics consultations since 2015 and have worked with over 3,000 cyclists throughout Italy, specializing in those over 40. In this video, I'll show you how to properly manage the riding position for cyclists over 40 and how the Cycling40 protocol works for a biomechanics consultation in Monza and Brianza. If we're talking about riding position for cyclists approaching or past 40, the key word must be "sustainability." In fact, during our biomechanical visit in Monza and Brianza, we learned that the position must be sustainable, meaning that the body must not escape the six contact points with the bicycle, as it unconsciously deems them dangerous. Our body is designed to escape pain, and if a position is perceived as a potential source of pain, our body will escape it, resulting in impaired movement and a loss of performance. To avoid this and achieve a truly sustainable position, we can use these guidelines: Performance is based on comfort: after age 40, feeling comfortable on a bike is essential. Without a comfortable position that doesn't cause overload, we won't be able to achieve a high-performance position, as the two are intrinsically linked; one does not exclude the other. Preventing injuries is crucial: if you're over 40, recovery time from an injury is double compared to when you were 20. Therefore, your riding position must minimize the risk of developing overload injuries. Muscle use must be optimized: rather than forcing the pedals, a cyclist over 40 should work on optimizing neuromuscular balance, ensuring a balanced distribution of muscle activation between the legs and between the anterior and posterior muscles of each leg. This helps reduce energy consumption while also significantly reducing the risk of muscle problems in the saddle.
