Cape York Begins: Dust, Corrugations & Close Calls | AUS LAP E42
Cape York has officially begun - and it wasted no time testing the van and our nerves. In this episode, we leave Cairns and start the long push north along the Peninsula Development Road (PDR). From relentless corrugations and thick red dust to close calls, van damage checks and the reality of travelling in croc country, this is Cape York exactly as we expected… and exactly as we didn’t. We roll through iconic locations like Lakeland and Coen, debate whether some scenic stops are becoming too expensive for families, set up camp along the Laura River, and finally reach the gateway to the Old Telegraph Track. This is Part 1 of our Cape York adventure - and things only get more remote, rough, and wild from here. 👉 Part 2 coming soon. If you’ve travelled Cape York (or dream of doing it one day), let us know in the comments - and if you’re planning a trip, hopefully this gives you a real taste of what to expect. 📺 CHAPTERS: 0:00 Intro 0:43 Leaving Cairns 3:03 Close Calls on the Road 3:46 Lakeland – Gateway to Cape York 5:36 Split Rock: Are Some Scenic Stops Too Expensive? 6:37 Off-Grid Camp on the Laura River 11:16 A Reminder We’re in Croc Country 13:14 Ready to Hit the Red Dirt 14:29 Corrugations & Dust on the PDR 16:23 Damage Update? 17:03 Coen’s Mining History 18:02 More Dirt, Termites & Reality 18:53 Bramwell Station Junction Roadhouse 19:24 Old Telegraph Track (OTT) Entry 20:22 Camp Setup & Beers 22:42 A Follower Found Us an Incredible Camp 24:16 What Fell Out of the Van 26:09 Coming Up in Part 2 26:57 Bloopers 👉 Check out last week's episode here: • Weight Woes, Cape York Prep & Cairns Surpr... 👌 DISCOUNT CODES AND SPECIAL OFFERS FOR GEAR WE USE 💰 5% off Transmission Coolers and products from Wholesale Automatic Transmissions.
