Frente Amplio: Grupo de militantes cuestiona al gobierno por giro al centro y la derecha
This Saturday, more than one hundred Broad Front activists gathered at the headquarters of Coordinadora B in Montevideo under the slogan "For a Broad Front with its heart on the left." The event, which was broadcast on YouTube and, according to the organizers, was followed by more than five thousand people, sought to open a space for reflection and criticism of the direction of the government led by Yamandú Orsi. Those attending expressed concern about what they consider a shift away from the historic project of the Broad Front (FA) and a growing center-right orientation in political and economic decisions. Among the main complaints were the government's foreign policy, especially its stance on the war in the Gaza Strip. Several speakers described the executive branch's position as "lukewarm" or "complicit" for not defining the actions of the Israeli army as "genocide" and called for a firmer international policy in line with the solidarity and anti-imperialist spirit of the Uruguayan left. Another objection focused on economic policy. Specifically, there was a call to tax the richest 1% of the population to fund policies against hunger and inequality, upholding the principle that "those who have more, pay more." Furthermore, the handling of social security reform was questioned. Union leader Nathalie Barbé, a member of the Executive Secretariat of the PIT-CNT, denounced the "biased social dialogue" and pointed out that the government prioritizes the voice of businesses over that of workers. She demanded 100% public social security without AFAPs (Federal Pension Funds), and warned that "when we forget who we represent, the people become disillusioned." The interventions also revived the founding spirit of the FA. Members and former representatives Esteban Pérez and Daniel Estéves recalled that this political force was born as an "anti-oligarchic and anti-imperialist" force, destined to transform the country's social structures and not simply to manage the crises of capitalism. Estéves emphasized that "the president's authority emanates from the more than one million Frente Amplio supporters who voted for him and ceases in the face of our sovereign presence," while Pérez warned against complicity with imperialist international policies, such as Uruguay's participation in UN military missions, according to La Diaria. One of the meeting's initiators, Daniel Esteves, former alternate deputy and former delegate of the B coordinating body, spoke today at En Perspectiva about those represented in this group and why they decided to express their disagreements: "We believe we are not the only ones. We are aware that there are socialist, communist, and Vertientist colleagues, many people who share this concern. They will surely join us, pushing, as they are doing, with the 1% and the need to fight against the AFAP scam. We are convinced that this is the case. But unfortunately, sometimes within the structures of the Broad Front, alliances operate between groups, dividing up positions, and leaving us out. The Broad Front was born as a coalition and as a movement. The movement represents those of us who are not divided into factions. We are the vast majority of the Broad Front." The day culminated with the decision to draft a formal declaration to be delivered to the President of the Republic, Yamandú Orsi, the Political Board of the Frente Amplio, and its president, Fernando Pereira. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Become a member of this channel to enjoy benefits: https://www.youtube.com/EnPerspectiva...
