The US-2 boasts a range of approximately 1,900 km, enabling search and rescue operations over vast ocean areas. Capable of slow flight and short takeoff distances, it is extremely useful for emergency evacuation of suddenly ill or injured people on remote islands without airfields. It has been deployed over 1,000 times to date, rescuing over 1,000 people.
